Mirabai Chanu clinched the silver medal in the women’s 49 kg category.
Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has been the apple of the eye lately all thanks to her successful campaign in the recently-concluded Tokyo Olympics. She was the first Indian to get on the medals tally at the event, clinching the silver medal in the women’s 49 kg category. Mirabai lifted 202kg (87kg+115kg) in total which secured her second place in the competition.
Notably, it was India’s only second-ever weightlifting medal at the Olympics. Hence, the whole nation was ecstatic. Needless to mention, social media got flooded with praises for Mirabai Chanu. On Wednesday (August 11), the star athlete received greetings from none other than Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Taking to Twitter, Chanu shared a couple of pictures in which Tendulkar was seen felicitating her with a flower bouquet.

The 27-year-old was overwhelmed after meeting Master Blaster, and the same was evident in her caption. “Loved meeting @sachintendulkar Sir this morning! His words of wisdom & motivation shall always stay with me. Really inspired,” wrote Chanu while sharing the snaps on the micro-blogging website.

Reacting to the pictures, Sachin also expressed his delight with the meet. The veteran also wished Chanu for her future endeavors. “Equally happy to meet you this morning, @mirabai_chanu. It was wonderful talking to you about your inspiring journey from Manipur to Tokyo. You’ve got places to go in the coming years, keep working hard,” he wrote.

Notably, Tendulkar was following Tokyo Olympics closely and the same was evident in her social media pages. He constantly lent his support by cheering and congratulating Indian athletes at the event. Tendulkar shared a congratulatory post for Chanu as well when she clinched silver medal in the competition.
Meanwhile, India finished the Tokyo Games with seven medals, registering its best-ever medal haul at the Olympics. Besides Chanu, wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya also claimed a silver medal. Shuttler PV Sindhu, wrestler Bajrang Punia and boxer Lovlina Borgohain returned with bronze medals. India’s men hockey team also clinched the silver medal. India’s sole gold medal in the event was registered by javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra. Notably, it was India’s first Olympic gold in the track and field event.
