Despite match ending in a draw, India’s dressing room will be the happier than England’s, Karthik recons.

India were robbed of a great chance to take a 1-0 lead in the first Test by the rain. There was no play on the fifth and final day as the rain never stopped. The visitors only needed 157 more runs and even a session of play would’ve made things interesting for both the sides. England also had a slender of a chance given India’s tendency to collapse while chasing but overall, the latter side had a better opportunity.

India cricketer and the commentator Dinesh Karthik feels that the visiting dressing room will be happier going into the second Test. They had England in trouble early on the fourth day only for the skipper Joe Root to come up with one of his best innings. He scored a brilliant ton and stretched the team’s lead past 200 to set India a target of 209 runs.

Thanks to another good start from KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, India reached 52/1 in 14 overs by stumps. However, they were denied by rain on the final day. According to Karthik, the visitors played fearless cricket and time and again put England under pressure.

“I think India definitely had the upper hand going into the final day. India will take a lot more from this game than England would – overall they played a very good brand of cricket,” Karthik said while speaking on Sky Sports.

Jasprit Bumrah’s performance a biggest positive for India

There were a lot of concerns around Jasprit Bumrah after he went wicketless in the World Test Championship (WTC) against New Zealand. Many criticised him a lot as well for not performing well. However, the fast bowler responded with a stunning show in the first Test returning with nine wickets combined in both innings. Dinesh Karthik also felt that Bumrah set the tone picking a wicket in the first over of the Test itself.

“Bumrah set the tone in the first over, setting up Rory Burns the way he did, the bowling unit was good and I thought the batters came in with a lot of intent,” Karthik added further.
