Rain had the final say in the first Test between England and India. Incessant downpour on Day Five meant that the first Test of the five-match Test series between Joe Root’s men and Virat Kohli’s men ended in a draw.

And, ahead of the second Test against India, England is likely to recall all-rounder Moeen Ali to their Test squad while batsman Haseeb Hameed might also take the field for the England side for the second rubber.

England Head Coach Chris Silverwood stated that Moeen Ali is under consideration for the second Test. Stating that Ali is a fine cricketer, Silverwood added that the all-rounder has also been in excellent form in The Hundred.

“Moeen is certainly under consideration, he always has been. We know he is a fine cricketer and is showing fine form in the Hundred. I appreciate it’s a different format [but] it’s something that has to be in our mind,” said Silverwood as quoted by The Guardian.

Haseeb Hameed slated to be a part of the playing XI

England batsman Haseeb Hameed is also set for a recall to the side for the second Test. Chris Silverwood reckoned that he is confident of Hameed’s abilities and the right-handed batsman is ready.

Silverwood further said that Hameed has put his best foot forward and has shown a lot of class as well. Silverwood concluded by stating that Hameed has grabbed every opportunity that has come his way.

“I’m confident he’s as ready as he could be. He is making a very strong case. He did put his best foot forward in Durham when he scored that hundred. What he did early season in the Championship shows there’s a lot of class there. He’s done everything he possibly can to be ready and taken every opportunity,” concluded the England Head Coach.

The second Test match between England and India will begin on 12th August 2021, at Lord’s in London. England will be hoping to put up a better performance when they take the field for the second rubber against the visitors.
