The inaugural edition of The Hundred has certainly lived up to the expectation as fans have witnessed some exciting contests in this new format of cricket.  While some matches saw batters scoring runs for fun, bowlers dominated few contests as well. The London Spirit vs Southern Brave match on Sunday (August 1) belongs to the latter category. The Brave side 145 runs at Lord’s and walked away with a thrilling four-wicket triumph.

While many spectacular spells were witnessed in the game, the show was stolen by Quinton de Kock’s jaw-dropping catch. The Southern Brave wicket-keeper took a stunning grab in the second innings to dismiss the dangerous Josh Inglis. It was indeed a turning point of the game as Inglis was playing on 55 and looked all set to take the London-based side over the line. However, De Kock’s brilliance shortened his stay at the crease.

The Proteas star took the sensational catch in the 86th ball of Southern Brave’s innings. Chris Jordon bowled a slower delivery which Inglis tried to send in the third-man region. He unleashed a scoop shot which seemed to have gotten enough connection but not enough to go past De Kock. The keeper made a full-length dive towards his right and collected the ball with one hand.

While Inglis couldn’t believe what happened, Southern Brave players were ecstatic. After all, Inglis was threatening to take the game away from them. However, the dashing opener couldn’t finish his job and the James Vince-led side subsequently emerged victorious by four runs.

Notably, De Kock had also played a fiery cameo besides showcasing a breathtaking effort on the field. The southpaw scored 27 off 14 balls while batting first, giving his side a stellar start. Riding on his cameo, the Southern Brave side posted 145/6 and defended the total as well. Fast bowler Chris Jordan received the Player-of-the-Match award for taking two crucial wickets.

Meanwhile, Southern Brave have advanced to the fifth place in the team standings with this win. On the other hand, Eoin Morgan’s London Spirit are still reeling at the last place, having lost three of their four games. Notably, the remaining fixture got washed out due to rain.
