Team India was on a roll in their recently-concluded tour of Sri Lanka till the COVID-19 virus dented their campaign. After clinching the ODI series 2-1, the Men in Blue also won the first T20I by 38 runs. However, Krunal Pandya tested positive for the COVID-19 virus on the eve of the second T20I, and tables were turned around. Besides the all-rounder, eight more Indian players were also ruled out of the remaining games as they were identified close to Krunal.

Subsequently, the visitors fielded a depleted line-up in the last T20Is and suffered defeats in both games. It was India’s batting that let them down the most. Nitish Rana was also among the several Indian batters who failed to make a mark in the T20I leg. The left-handed batsman, who made his T20I debut in the second game, registered scores of nine and six in his two outings.

I’ve always believed in hard work over luck and this won’t stop me: Nitish Rana

Rana also featured in the third ODI of the series where he scored seven runs. Needless to mention, the dasher won’t be happy with his performance and this failure won’t dent his morale. Following India’s T20I series defeat, the 27-year-old took to Twitter and posted a heartfelt note. Acknowledging the Sri Lanka tour didn’t go as per his plans, Rana vowed to bounce back.

“Our social media isn’t just to post victories but also our failures. This tour didn’t go the way I planned or expected it to go but I have learnt so much in my last three games. Since the time I’ve held the bat in my hands, I’ve always believed in hard work over luck and this won’t stop me,” Rana wrote

“There are people who’ll say stuff and judge me but I won’t let anything tear me down because I know how much I’ve worked for it & I’ll keep moving forward & keep going stronger and be back to win big games for myself & my team,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rana will next be seen in the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which gets underway on September 19 in UAE. The Kolkata Knight Riders batsman will indeed have a great chance to silence his critics and it would be interesting to see how he performs.
