The countdown has begun as the schedule of the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is out. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the major announcement on Sunday (July 25), and fans can’t keep calm. The remaining 31 games will take place in UAE, starting from September 19. Hence, all the teams must gear up to shine in the Arab nation.

For the unversed, IPL 2021 was initially scheduled to take place in April-May earlier this year. However, the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic forced BCCI to suspend the tournament midway. Nevertheless, the tournament is set to resume in months time, and it would be interesting to see how all the teams perform. Mumbai Indians will certainly be one of the most confident teams, having won last year’s IPL in UAE.

The Rohit Sharma-led side also did considerably well in the initial half of the tournament. With four wins in seven games, MI were fourth in the team standings at the time of the season suspension. This means they need to win at least four of their remaining seven league-stage games to make a place in the playoffs without any hassle.

This is certainly not a hefty challenge for the five-time champion and all teams must be aware of the fact. It won’t be really wrong to say that MI hardly have any shortcomings in their side. With Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, and Hardik Pandya in ranks, Mumbai has a settled batting order. At the same time, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Rahul Chahar have the onus to shine with the ball.

In fact, all the players in Mumbai Indians’ first-choice XI are around their respective national teams. This speaks volumes of the side’s strength. Meanwhile, the defending champions will resume their campaign with a high-voltage encounter against Chennai Super Kings on September 19. They’ll also meet in-form teams in Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals as the season progresses. Hence, their road to glory won’t be a cakewalk.
