Both Australia and West Indies’ batting collapsed at certain stages of the encounter.

After the humiliating defeat in the opening game, West Indies made an incredible comeback in the re-scheduled second ODI against Australia. At the Kensington Oval in Barbados, the Kieron Pollard-led unit won by four wickets. Moreover, the home team also drew the much-needed equaliser in the series.
Australia collapse under pressure
After winning the toss, and electing to bat, the Aussies started poorly as Ben McDermott, Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Turner and Moises Henriques couldn’t enter the double digits. Josh Phillipe and Alex Carey did get into double digits, but they failed to convert. The visitors were reduced to 96/7 at one stage.
Matthew Wade looked determined in his 68-ball 36 and he perished to Alzarri Joseph. Mitchell Starc also chipped in with 19 handy runs. Adam Zampa and Wes Agar scored 36 and 41 respectively and guided Australia to 187. For the hosts, Joseph and Akeal Hosein picked up two wickets each.
Pooran and Holder survive
In the run-chase, West Indies lost the early wickets of Evin Lewis and Darren Bravo to Starc. Jason Mohammed couldn’t get going either. Shai Hope tried to hold his ground with a 43-ball 38, but Turner castled him. After being reduced to 72/5, the Caribbean team found themselves in trouble.
Pollard couldn’t survive either after Zampa rattled his woodwork. Thereafter, Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 59 and Holder’s 69-ball 52 saved the day for the home team. The duo put on a stand of 93 runs for the sixth wicket and in the end, West Indies chased the target with 12 overs to spare.
After the win, Pollard was a tad dejected as the hosts’ batters stuttered yet another time. Carey, the Australian skipper, on the other hand, said that his team couldn’t get the score they wanted to achieve.
“When you start a cricket match you want to win. We have some work to do. I don’t think we put out foot on the accelerator. Our batters didn’t make it easy for us as well. Looks like we don’t like to do things the easy way,” Pollard was quoted as saying.
“It was an interesting game in the end. It doesn’t help when you are five for not a lot. Wade and the bowlers brought us back into the game. We created opportunities in the end, but we were at least 30 runs short,” Carey said.
Here’s how the netizens reacted to West Indies’ victory:

Nicholas Pooran is the hero for West Indies, they were 72 for 5, top order collapse and he stayed till the end to see the team get over the line – unbeaten 59 runs from 75 balls including 2 fours & 2 sixes – helped West Indies to level the series. #WIvAUS pic.twitter.com/TGMRGzx8Lh

#WIvAUS Strange game that, I feel Aus kinda fucked that one up, when you drop Nicholas Pooran twice with a low score on the board it’s gonna be a rough time. However both teams top order have been pretty ordinary. ODI series tied at 1-1, winner take all game Tuesday morning.

One thing Nicholas Pooran always says is he wants to take games deep more often.
This was a tremendously responsible innings from the young man seeing out the threat of the spin and Mitchell Starc, ensuring his team gets over the line.
World class talent 🙌 #WIvAUS
