India lost a thriller of a match in the second T20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Wednesday (28 July). With a new-look squad and four debutantes, the Men in Blue could not quite get going in both the batting and bowling departments of the game. It was Lankan Lions all the way and with the win, they have also managed to level the series 1-1.

The match had its fair share of twists, turns, and drama too. While chasing a modest target of 133, Sri Lanka were looking to build a partnership and take the game deep. In the process of limiting the damage, the Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan brought Kuldeep Yadav into the attack in the eighth over of the innings and he immediately made things happen by getting a ball straight to the Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka.

Shanaka missed the sweep and Yadav thought there was a wicket, only to be denied by the umpire. But the home team had a DRS still in place and could have used it. Sanju Samson who was the designated wicketkeeper for the side though didn’t seem confident to use it. Later, the replays on the big screen showed the batter would have been out, had India taken a DRS in the eighth over of the innings.

Sanju Samson criticized for not taking a DRS against Dasun Shanaka

Well, it was still not known as to whose call it was on not taking the DRS against Shanaka, but the blame game and fingers were naturally pointed towards Samson. The 26-year-old had an average outing with the bat too as he managed to score just seven runs. Although he later made amends by pulling off a stumping to dismiss the Lankan skipper, he could have helped Yadav get a wicket earlier by using the DRS in place.

But all is not lost for Samson and India as they still have a game left to be played in the series. India have so far been brilliant in the series with several players stepping up in both the ODIs and T20Is. With the series on the line, India will be hoping to end the tour on a high.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Samson missing out on taking DRS:
