A fan tweeted that Sanju Samson should be given the captaincy reigns of the Indian team after Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the remaining T20I matches against the Sri Lankan side.
The Indian side suffered a jolt as news has come in that skipper Shikhar Dhawan will miss the remaining matches of the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Indian cricketer Krunal Pandya tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the 2nd T20I, and nine other members of the Indian side were identified as close contacts to Pandya.
Dhawan was also among the nine cricketers who were in contact with Pandya. Even though all the other cricketers apart from Krunal Pandya have tested negative, they are currently in isolation and will play no further part in the series.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar will don the skipper’s hat for the remaining two matches of the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Also, the 2nd T20I between India and Sri Lanka, which was scheduled to take place on 27th July 2021, will now be held on 28th July 2021 after Pandya tested positive.

And, the fans have let their thoughts known regarding the absence of Shikhar Dhawan from the Indian side for the final two T20I matches. While one fan opined that Ruturaj Gaikwad might open for India in the 2nd T20I, and Nitish Rana might be handed a debut, another fan stated that an Indian C side will now face Sri Lanka in the remaining T20I matches.
Another fan cheekily stated that he needs to pack his bags and fly to Sri Lanka to represent the Indian side as so many players are missing. Another user even opined that Sanju Samson should be given the captaincy reigns of the Indian team after Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the remaining T20I matches against the Sri Lankan side.
Also, many fans felt that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the ideal person to captain the Indian side in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan. India is already 1-0 up in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, and another win for the Indian side will ensure that they will bag the series.
