Kolkata Knight Riders couldn’t do much in the initial half of the season.

Cricket fans must gear up to witness some exciting contest between the bat and the ball as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is set to resume on September 19. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule of the season half of the tournament on Sunday (July 25). Hence, all eight teams must be ready to make a mark in the United Arab Emirates.

For the unversed, IPL 2021 was initially scheduled to take place in India in April-May. However, BCCI had to postpone the tournament midway all thanks to the COVID-19 virus. Nevertheless, the remaining competition is set to get underway in months time. With 29 of the 56 league-stage games already done and dusted, the UAE leg won’t be the same for all sides.

While some teams would like to continue their purple patch, others would aim for a change of fortunes. Kolkata Knight Riders, without any doubt, belong to the latter category. The two-time champions failed to perform as a unit and their position in the team standings narrate the entire story. With two wins from seven games, KKR were reeling at the penultimate spot of the team standings at the time of season suspension.

This means KKR need to win almost all their remaining game to qualify for the playoffs without any fuss. Needless to mention, a hefty challenge is waiting for the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team, and it would be interesting to see how they perform. Prominent names including skipper Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russell, and Sunil Narine need to step up to change KKR’s fortunes.

Not to forget, Australian speedster Pat Cummins won’t feature in the remaining season, and this is another reason why many are not backing KKR to bounce back in the competition. Nevertheless, the likes of Russell, Narine, and Morgan have played T20 worldwide. Hence, ruling KKR out of the competition won’t be wise for other sides. Meanwhile, KKR will resume their IPL 2021 campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore on September 20.
