Prithvi Shaw once again threw his wicket away after getting a brilliant start, and fans aren’t happy. The youngster, who registered scores of 43 and 13 in the first two games, looked in fine touch in the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Despite losing opening partner Shikhar Dhawan early in the innings, Shaw backed his attacking game and played shots all over the park.

Unlike the previous two games, the youngster seemed more calculated as he was giving utmost respect to challenging deliveries. However, his strike rate was never on the lower side and fans backed him to play a significant knock. Contrary to the expectations, Shaw went back for a run-a-ball 49 in the 16th over. Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka accounted for his wicket, trapping the 21-year-old in front of the stumps.

It was a full-length delivery from the right-arm pacer which came slightly in. Shaw shuffled across and tried to guide the delivery square on the leg-side. However, he failed to make any sort of connection and the umpire was happy to acknowledge Sri Lanka’s LBW appeal.

However, Shaw couldn’t agree to the decision. He subsequently went for a review but it couldn’t save him. The replay clearly showed that the ball was hitting the middle stump, and hence, India lost a vital review. While the youngster’s dismissal already ignited a lot of flak, Shaw made things worse for himself by taking an ‘unnecessary review.’

Fans not happy with Prithvi Shaw’s approach

With Shaw looking evidently out, several fans believe that the batter shouldn’t have wasted a vital review. The same earned him a lot of bashing on social media. Meanwhile, Shaw mustered eight boundaries in his brief but entertaining 49-run knock. He had added 74 runs for the second wicket alongside debutant Sanju Samson. However, his dismissal meant Sri Lanka got a chance to bounce back in the contest. Hence, it would be interesting to see how the remaining game pans out.

Notably, India are enjoying an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Hence, the third ODI is a mere fixture. However, the visitors would be determined to continue their season run. At the same time, the Lankan Lions will play for pride.

Meanwhile, here’s a look at how Twitterati reacted after Shaw wasted the review
