India’s young batsman Shubman Gill cemented his place in the Test squad of India within a limited period of time and the team trusted him with all his capabilities. However, the young opener got ruled out of the high-profile five-match England series which is set to commence on August 04. He got ruled out due to a stress injury, an injury that he sustained during the final of the World Test Championship only.

In the latest turn of events, Gill gave the update of his return to his hometown. As soon as he reunited with his family, he was showered with all the love and warmth and that clearly got visible in one of his Instagram stories. Gill posted a picture of a beautiful cake that mentioned, ‘Welcome Home Shubi (Shubman).’ Clicking the picture of the same, the young batsman posted it on his IG story stating family is over everything.

As per few reports that surfaced earlier, young Prithvi Shaw was expected to be Shubman Gill’s replacement in England but BCCI cleared the air soon on the same matter. Since Shaw is already in Sri Lanka for India’s white-ball assignments against the home team, he wasn’t given a call to return to the UK. BCCI also stated that they have two opening choices in the form of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal.

Shubman Gill’s brief Test career so far

In the same sequence of events, former Indian legendary skipper Kapil Dev also added that calling Shaw from Lanka won’t be a fine idea when two capable reserve players are already there in the Indian squad. In fact, it will be an insult to both of them. It has to be noted that Mayank Agarwal remains the first choice opener in place of Gill, despite the former’s underwhelming performance in the recent warm-up match against County XI.

Talking about Gill, he marked his Test in 2020 in a Test match against Australia in Melbourne. He has been part of whites in the four game so far, scoring 119 runs at an average of 19.83. He caught all the headlines with his heroic knock of 91 runs at Brisbane during India’s final Test against Australia in the last Border Gavaskar Trophy.
